Interview Protocol

Interview Protocol

This interview protocol emerged from our study funded by the PIT-UN ("Public Interest Technology University Network") Challenge Grant. For this study, the NEP team interviewed Computer Science and Engineering students. The protocol is useful for understanding students' perceptions of ethics and ethics education across institutional contexts, and it is designed to elicit rich participant responses.

We developed the interview protocol in consultation with a design-thinking expert with the intent to make it useful across all institutional contexts. That is, we intended this interview protocol to be helpful for the researchers at any institution of higher education who wish to understand how students understand their ethics-related course offering and its relationship to their career perceptions and institutional messaging. We implemented this interview protocol for our PIT-UN study at three sites — public and private R1 universities on the East Coast and a private R1 institution on the West Coast.
